Food for Good

M&G employees partnered with Kids Around the World and their OneMeal mobile food-packing program to participate in Food for Good, and pack over 162,000 meals for kids in Africa.

OneMeal partners with multiple organizations like churches, schools, businesses, and civic groups to host food packing parties at their location or the warehouse. Volunteers come together and pack meals assembly line style in a unifying and fun high-energy event. Managing partner, Wes Montgomery, has recently experienced firsthand how these meals positively affect communities. He and his family joined his church in a mission trip to Rwanda with Africa New Life, who works closely with Kids Around the World to sponsor and participate in the Food for Good packing parties.

The packaged food is then shipped and distributed to trusted partners to ensure the food reaches hungry children in great need of our help. Through the OneMeal program, nourishing food has been provided to children in 18 different countries, including the U.S. and developing countries across the globe.

When our team arrived at Countryside Community Church, we were given t-shirts and hairnets. Our event host from Kids Around the World gave us the instructions for how to pack these very important meals. When it was time to begin, the uplifting music was turned up loud and we got to work.

The meals we packed consist of rice and soy mix fortified with 21 vitamins and minerals, as well as 6 dehydrated vegetables and seasoning. This soy (52% protein) and nutrient rich formula reverses the starvation process and its effects. One single package of food contains 6 servings. One box contains 36 packages and feeds 216 children. One pallet contains 66 boxes with 2,376 packages, which feeds 14,256 children!

After our two-hour shift, we had reached our goal and had packed over 23,000 meals! The assembly line set-up and lots of helping hands made the process extremely efficient. The team took immense pride knowing all their hard work would soon be on its way to South Africa and kids in need.
